Richmond-based artist Rosa Lee Fry has been combining watercolor and pen to create illustrations for the past several years. Her illustrative work is whimsical and features imaginary "critters" filled with personality. In the past year, she has really started to hone in her abstract skills, as well as including acrylics and collage-materials in her work. Over the past year, she has worked towards creating a series of multi-layered paintings that coincide with the music she listens to. The series, "Visions in Vinyl" was just exhibited at The Well Art Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, and is her first solo show. Passionate about travel, music and using art to tell a story, Fry's work is expressive and features bright colors, varying lines and textures. She is interested in the way that music effects people and how it can bring back memories, feelings or can create a new feeling or sensation. In addition to exploring this in her work, she hopes to explore the way that various places (their sounds, smells, and vibe) can effect her paintings. She graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2013 with a BA in Fine Arts, Studio Art. In addition to working as an artist, she also teaches elementary school art.
